Recurring Events

We have night time viewings approximately twice a month on Thursdays from 6 - 10pm (weather permitting), solar viewings on Friday’s from 11am-4pm (weather permitting), occasional trips to other observatories in the Houston area and weekly telescope/viewing setup training sessions. Starting Spring 2017, we will have guest speakers who work in Astronomy related fields present their work/research and we will offer other training sessions related to Astronomy.


March General Meeting (Spring 2018)

On Monday, March 5th at 7pm in SEC 100, ASUH will have its second general meeting of the Spring Semester. Level 2b Workshop I (March 2018)

At 2pm on Friday, March 2nd, in the observatory we will be providing an intro level workshop on Level 2b: Stellar Astronomy. Come learn about the kinds of objects a seasoned eye may detect in the sky during observation through the lens of a telescope.

At 1pm on Friday, March 2nd, in the observatory we will be providing an intro level workshop on Level 2a: Solar Observation Basics. Come learn the precautions of solar observations and how to find an object through a telescope!

Observation Pop-Up I (March 2018)

This Thursday, March 1st at 6:00pm, ASUH will host a pop-up night observation on the lawn in front of M.D. Anderson Library. You can drop by anytime during the pop-up, and feel free to bring your friends and classmates!

Dancing with the Stars

Galileo meets Gene Kelly! On Thursday, February 8th from 7:00-10:00pm in between the two Student Centers, ASUH will be partnering with Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority for a night of dancing and star-gazing. Bring your sweetheart or maybe find one here! We will have a live DJ, photo booth, dance lessons, and telescopes set up for night observations.


First General Meeting (Spring 2018)

On Monday, February 5th from 7-9:30pm in SEC 102, we will hold our first general meeting for the spring semester. We will conduct general business as well as have a presentation from guest speaker Dr. Martin Huarte-Espinosa. Dinner will be provided by the Potatoe Patch. Volunteer Opportunity at NSMeet

On Saturday, February 3rd from 11:00am-2:30pm, ASUH will be participating in NSMeet - an open house for high school students. Help us staff the observatory while recruiting future STEM majors and ASUH members! We ask that you show your Cougar Pride by wearing red. Lunar Eclipse Viewing

Join us this Wednesday, January 31st for a viewing of the lunar eclipse! We will be meeting on the top of the Welcome Center garage at 5:30am and observe the eclipse until around 7:30am. We know it’s early in the morning, so feel free to bring coffee or wear your pjs - whatever helps you come out and have fun! We ask that you bring your own chairs if you are wanting to sit down. If anybody is willing to lend a table for us to use, please let us know by emailing asuh@email.nsm.uh.edu.
