Recurring Events

We have night time viewings approximately twice a month on Thursdays from 6 - 10pm (weather permitting), solar viewings on Friday’s from 11am-4pm (weather permitting), occasional trips to other observatories in the Houston area and weekly telescope/viewing setup training sessions. Starting Spring 2017, we will have guest speakers who work in Astronomy related fields present their work/research and we will offer other training sessions related to Astronomy.

Lunar Eclipse Viewing

January 31, 2018

Join us this Wednesday, January 31st for a viewing of the lunar eclipse! We will be meeting on the top of the Welcome Center garage at 5:30am and observe the eclipse until around 7:30am. We know it’s early in the morning, so feel free to bring coffee or wear your pjs - whatever helps you come out and have fun! We ask that you bring your own chairs if you are wanting to sit down. Montgomery Dark Site Star Party

The astronomy society will be meeting at the Montgomery Dark Site on Saturday, November 18th at 5pm to observe the clearer skies away from Houston. Come enjoy a truly awesome night with us as we observe stars into the late night.

ASUH Tailgating Party

On Saturday, November 4th we will be tailgating at UH’s homecoming game. Come join us and show off your UH pride as we play against East Carolina. Tailgating will begin at 8:30am!

Halloween Pop-up Event

We have having a special pop-up event for Halloween this year! On October 31st we will be on the lawn in front of the MD Anderson Library at 7pm to 8:30pm (depending on weather and foot traffic). Stop by and visit; we’ll be wearing costumes and handing out candy!

Public Lecture on Gravitational Waves

Monday October 23rd speaker Dr. David Reitze will be traveling to UH to speak about the collision and fusion of two black holes and how gravitational astronomy will change the way we understand the universe. The talk begins at 7pm in the Science and Engineering Classrooms (SEC), Room 100, and there is a reception at 6:15pm.
