Recurring Events

We have night time viewings approximately twice a month on Thursdays from 6 - 10pm (weather permitting), solar viewings on Friday’s from 11am-4pm (weather permitting), occasional trips to other observatories in the Houston area and weekly telescope/viewing setup training sessions. Starting Spring 2017, we will have guest speakers who work in Astronomy related fields present their work/research and we will offer other training sessions related to Astronomy.

Public Lecture on Gravitational Waves

October 23, 2017

Monday October 23rd speaker Dr. David Reitze will be traveling to UH to speak about the collision and fusion of two black holes and how gravitational astronomy will change the way we understand the universe. The talk begins at 7pm in the Science and Engineering Classrooms (SEC), Room 100, and there is a reception at 6:15pm.



October Night Observation

October 20, 2017

On October 20th we will be holding our second night observation of the month at the UH Observatory. Observation will begin around 8:00pm and continue until 10pm. Pop-up Observation Night

On October 5th we will have our first pop-up observation night. We will be set up at the fountain in front of Farrish Hall from 8pm to 10pm. Post Eclipse Social

On October 2nd, ASUH will be holding its first social event of the year in the Science and Engineering Classrooms, SEC 102, from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. Please join us there to hear from NASA Solar System Ambassador and former North Houston Astronomy Club (NHAC) President, Dr. Aaron Clevenson, as he speaks about the new partnership between NHAC and ASUH. Also, ASUH will be providing Free southern cuisine courtesy of Potato Patch and we will discuss the upcoming Society activities for the month of October. Thursday Night Viewing

Join us for our first Thursday night viewing of the semester! The event will take place on September 21st from 8pm tp 10pm in the Observatory.


Cassini Farewell Party

September 15, 2017

On September 15th we said a fond farewell to Cassini! There was a special Friday night viewing in the Observatory from 8pm to 10pm. We had several stations set up to broadcast the final transmissions and best of photographs taken over the 13 year long mission, along with a dedicated Saturn viewing.
